On this episode, we chat with Luisa Brimble, who's based in Sydney, Australia. As a photographer, Luisa has worked with some of the most influential publishers and authors in the industry, including Prestel Publishing New York, Hardie Grant Publishing, Penguin Random House, and Thames & Hudson. Her images have been featured in best-selling cookbooks such as the Wild Adventure Cookbook, recognized by the James Beard Foundation in 2019.
Her Substack newsletter called “In the Foreground” continues to explore the deep contrasts of food, and how it shapes identity, memory, and belonging, particularly in the context of Filipino cuisine. Luisa is a kindred spirit and it's easy to see why!
We talk lots about food from the Bicol region, how we hold memories of taste incredibly close as members of the diaspora, the centralness of sourness, about food at home and away.
Thank you, Luisa, for reminding me that our voices and stories always have a place in the world ❤️
