In Naga, Camarines Sur, I delved into the classics - Bicol Express, in so many ways; laing which simply can’t be beat fresh in the land of its origin, taro leaves and shrimp simmered in coconut cream; kinalas, a local noodle dish; kinunot, shredded sting ray in coconut cream.
Naga People’s Mall is easily one of my favourite markets! Endless pili nuts, in all its forms, and the list of snacks goes on.
I particularly loved my visit to Savage Mind, an independent bookstore in the heart of the city - simply the best gateway into the richness of Bikol heritage, history, arts and culture. There is so much to learn!
